Four students of Auchi Polytechnic in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State have been reportedly shot dead by guen suspected to be cultists.
A female student who was said to be on her way to write an exam and walking alongside one of the deceased was also killed by by stray bullets.
The incident is coming amid reported renewed bloody cult clash between members of Black Axe and Virkings confraternities in Auchi on one hand, while Maphite and Black Axe are also said to be at daggers drawn in Benin City.
It was gathered that two of the victims were killed Friday at campus III of the Institution, while two others were killed Saturday at the gate of campus II in the polytechnic.
One of the victims, a final year student of the Department of Engineering, was said to be on his way to write his final exam when hoodlums opened fire on him.
The renewed fight was said to have started after a rival group killed a member of another to mark a year anniversary of One Osa Technical who was reportedly killed in a cult related clash in 2023.
The revenge has reportedly led to a series of attacks and counter-attacks in Benin City, the state capital, and Auchi.
It was gathered that the confraternity fight in Benin has recorded worrisome fatalities at Mission Road, New Benin, Ekosodi, Ekiadolor, Agbor park, Ugbo road among others.
The State Commissioner of police, Funsho Adegbeye confirmed the tragic incident. He stated that operatives are on top of the situation.
