Immediate past chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, Chief Godwin Adode has emerged as the Chairman of the Delta State Football Association (DFA).
Adode, along side eight others were inaugurated today, at the football house, along Marian Babangida Way, Asaba by the Permanent Secretary, House of Assembly Service Commission, Barr. Austin Uwasike.
In his opening remarks, outgoing chairman of the body, Mr. Kenneth Nwaomucha, welcomed and thanked the representatives of football bodies present and appreciated them for their unwavering support and for their presence at the congress, noting that through their individual and collective supporrt, the Association under his leadership was able to achieve a lot in the past four years. He however solicits their supports also to incoming executives to enable them succeed.
“I am proud of my tenure as chairman of the DFA, because almost all you see in DFA today, was put in place under my tenure through the collective efforts of myself and my executives together with the support from the National body.
He said; “In my time there was no official handing over because there were no documentations to begin with, but today, we are handing over officially. We ensure we had elections of DFA chairmen across the 25 LGA which also form part of the delegates we have here today.”
Speaking further, Mr. Kenneth disclosed that the boardroom of the football house is presently beautified by the photographs and achievements of the past leaders of the Association since 1999 till date, but maintained that under his tenure, the DFA started winning trophies and also getting to finals through brilliant strategies.
He seized the opportunity to wish the incoming executive a successful tenure as he bows out officially.
With the dissolution of the body, the Electoral committee chairman, Mr. Israel Odibeli, listed the elective positions available to be contested. He also disclosed that the office of the chairman was unopposed, but included it as part of due process.
Those who emerged included Chief Hon. Adode Godwin, of Ughelli North, emerging as the Chairman, and Mr. Neville Ambakederemo of Burutu local as Vice Chairman.
Others include, Mr. Dave Egho of Isoko North LGA, Mr. Azuka Chiemeke Aniocha south LGA, Mr. Sam Sodje of Uvwie LGA, Mr. Jonah Famutua of Warri southwest, Mr. Solomon Chucks Iwerebor of Ika North East LGA and Mr. Ogwu Senior Emewe of Ndokwa West LGA are members.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Godwin Adode, expressed his appreciation to all delegates for their trust and confidence reposed in him to lead the Association. He also thanked the state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for giving them the opportunity to serve in the sport ministry, and promised not to disappoint them but hold firm unto the ideals and philosophy of the Association and improved on his predecessors achievements.
