Contrary to Central Bank assurances of surplus cash in circulation, residents in Delta State have in the past weeks experienced difficulties accessing cash from their commercial banks accounts.
Our Correspondent who visited number of commercial banks in Warri, Ughelli and environs, can authoritatively report, that customers who visited their banks for withdrawals were only allowed to withdraw only N5,000.
A customer at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) in Warri, said they were compelled to withdraw only Five thousand Naira, while at Eco bank, customers were denied access into the bank.
Meanwhile, as customers are denied access to their cash at the counter, most of the banks ATM machines are also not loaded with cash with customers lamenting in frustration and despaired.
Another customer who spoke with this reporter, expressed fears, stating that N5,000 will not even be enough for transportation less to prepare a pot of soup, and lamented the poor network situation in the various electronic transfer by customers.
At Ughelli, the situation is the same as customers at some commercial banks narrated that they have gone to withdraw N50,000 but were only paid N10,000. In addition to their anxieties, officials at the different banks have kept mum to situation living customers to remain in doubt.
It could be recalled that, Nigerians experienced cash crunch in February this year which crumbled the economy, and there is fear that if such experience reoccurred in the month of December, businesses will definitely collapsed. They appealed to the CBN to work their talk in order to avoid a reoccurrence of cash straps.
