⇔The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly and Treasurer, Conference of Speakers of state legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor yesterday said that the full autonomy of the State legislatures in the country is non-negotiable.
Speaking during the end of the year and Christmas party organized by staff and management of the State legislature in Asaba, the State capital, Rt. Hon. Guwor said that the conference of Speakers of State legislatures in the country is fully in support of the struggle for full autonomy of the legislature.
Flanked by some members of the State legislature at the party, Rt. Hon. Guwor enjoined legislative workers in the State and beyond to keep hope alive, stressing that efforts are in top gear to ensure that their struggle for autonomy was not in vain.
He, particularly assured the legislative workers that the issue of Consolidated Legislative Salary Scale (CONLESS) is being addressed just as he assured that the year 2024 holds better fortune than the outgoing and previous years.
He said, “We are here to celebrate the end of the year and to mark the State legislature’s staff week. It is true that the outgoing year, 2023 has been very challenging, but I assure you that the coming year, 2024 would be better.
“As legislative workers, let me assure you that we share in your pains, your struggles and your aspirations.
“We are with you in your struggle for full autonomy of the State legislatures as we are also, together in the struggle for nation building.

“This 8th Assembly is committed to ensuring that all legislative workers in the State are happy” Guwor said.

In his address of welcome at the event, the Acting clerk of the State legislature, Mr. Otto Aghoghophia commended the speaker of the State legislature for his magnanimity in approving the end of year party.

Aghoghophia, while assuring the speaker and other lawmakers of unalloyed support from the legislative workers, appealed to him (the speaker) to use his good officers as treasurer, Conference of Speakers of state legislatures of Nigeria to ensure speedy consideration and approval of CONLESS.

High point of the event was the presentation of awards to deserving staff of the State legislature who distinguished themselves in their various field and departments.
