Information reaching this medium had it, that two police officers yet to be identified, attached to the Dragon Patrol Team have been murdered in the afternoon of Sunday, July 23, 2023 along the Ughelli/Asaba road by the Oleh roundabout.
Though the information is still sketchy, but a commercial driver who ply the route and witnessed the scene, narrated that all vehicles have to park with their passengers and fled into the bush for fear of being shot at by the hoodlums as the suspected robbers fired shots sporadically.
He could not confirmed if the two officers gave up the ghost immediately at the scene, but said, the patrol van of the police was set on fire by the suspects, stating that before they could come out of the bush, another police van has come to take the officers shot away.
It is not also confirmed if the suspects carted away weapons and other belongings of the police officers but, another unconfirmed source disclosed that the hoodlums came in droves and after killing the two officers, they set the patrol van ablaze.
This is happening barely a week after a police Inspector, Jude Ukpaka attached to the Dragon Patrol Team was gunned down along the Ogor/Evwreni axis of the East-West road.
When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer in Delta State, Bright Edafe could not be reached on phone.
The wave of crime in Delta State have gone up recently and this may not be unconnected to lack of thorough investigations by police officers before releasing on bails some acclaimed Yahoo boys that are often arrested for one reason or the other.
Findings revealed that at the different divisions, DPO’s are alleged to be making a lot of gains into their pockets with the arrest of (Yahoo Boys) who allegedly settled with hundreds of thousands and are released quickly thereby continuing on their dubious criminal activities under the guise of Yahoo Yahoo (Internet Frauds).Â
With the recent attacks on the police force in Delta State, it is time now for the authorities of the security agents to look inward and bring in their best to fighting crime and bringing it to a stand still.
