… Hailed for adopting and implementing transparency and accountability in their governance approach.
The Guild Of Online Media Editors And Publishers, (G.O.M.E.P) Nigeria, a body of over 75 registered online media publishers has said that the organisation is set to honour each of the 10 State Governors who stirred their respective states to enviable heights in the 2024 Governance Accountability And Transparency Index (G.A.T.I) Report released in November 26, 2024, at Abuja, the Nation’s capital.
Stating the importance of the media in public governance, the National Publicity Secretary of the G.O.M.E.P, and publisher of Naija News House, Comrd. Dominic Edet Edem, in a media statement, said that while the yearly G.A.T.I Report measures the accountability and transparency perception index of each of the states in Nigeria by adopting globally acceptable and scientific approaches to arrive at the results, it was time to honour the 10 States that came Top, in the 2024 Report, with Certificate of Exceptional Performances (E.P), in line with the group’s modus operandi.
The statement reads in parts:
“The media is the watchdog on public transparency and accountability, and GOMEP, as a registered and responsible body that galvanises reputable online news publishers has entrenched the Governance Accountability And Transparency Index (G.A.T.I) as a yearly report that scrutinises transparency and accountability outlook of all the 36 States in Nigeria, and scoring each state for their indubitable performances, on aggregated statistics and indices that are in line with the global best practices.
“The 2024 Report released on November 26, 2024, saw 10 States at the top, with equal Average Index Points of 86.3, and Final Rating of Exceptional Performance (E.P). The Top 10 States, in no particular order include: Delta, Borno, Anambra, Kwara, Lagos, Ekiti, Osun, Akwa Ibom, Benue and Enugu.
“As our modus operandi, from the second week of the month of January, G.O.M.E.P will be visiting each of the Top 10 States, where the Governors will be presented with the Certificate Of Exceptional Performance (E.P), to encourage them for consolidation on the impactful approach to governance they have adopted by embracing transparency and accountability in the processes of Budgeting, Public Access to information, Audit and oversight, Anti corruption, Government responsiveness, and Procurement.
