… Carting Away An Undisclosed Sum Of Money, Phones, Others
There was pandemonium in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State on Monday, August 2, at about 6:00pm, as suspected armed robbery gang, numbering over fifteen stormed a popular Telecommunications shop shooting at one of the customers described as a middle age man whose name could not been confirmed as at press time.
An eyewitness reported that, the victim who was at the shop at the time of the robbery, was not lucky enough as he was shot in his stomach, with his intestine gushing out.
An unconfirmed source disclosed that the victim was but later rushed to the hospital immediately the hoodlums completed their operation which was said to have lasted for over 20 minutes.
A lucky victim who does not wants his name in print, said;
“I went to Raycom Phone Store this evening to get a phone, but when I got to the store, I saw a young man with AK-47 riffle standing at the entrance. First, I thought he was just a security man guiding the store, so I went in unsuspecting, but surprisingly, when I entered the store, I saw everyone lying down, I was a bit confused, and wanted to ask what was going on, but as I turned, the guy I saw outside pointed the gun at me, commanding me to join them on the floor otherwise I will be shot.
“I had to comply, but before then, a young man of about 35 year of age had already been shot in the stomach, his intestines came out. They collected phones, money and laptops and left. I thank God they did not see the money that was with me, he narrated.”
Contacted for his reaction, the owner of the store, Chief Raymond Anozie could not be reached, just as calls placed across to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, to confirm the incident was not answered as at press time.
The incident is coming two days after the wife of an Ughelli business man was kidnapped along the Isoko road in Ughelli putting the security situation in Ughelli in tense position.
