…Urges Udu, Urhobo People To Teach Their Children The Language

The President General of Union of Udu Communities (UUC) Comrade Austine Emaduku has charged Udu people on the need to teach their children the Urhobo language in order to sustained the rich cultural heritage of the Urhobo nation.
Emaduku who made this charge during a familiarization and ‘thank you’ tour toOghior, Okolor-Oburie, Otor-Udu, Erhiephihor, Ovworhokpokopr, Owhrode Communities respectively, also thanked the people for their immense support during his election as the President General of Udu kingdom.Â
He harped on the need to revive the Urhobo language and culture especially the Udu dialect in homes by teaching the children how to speak the language fluently, warning that if this is not done, Urhobo language may fade away in years to come.
He said; “I have come to thank you for your immense support during my election at the last UUC conference. I am very grateful for your support. I will ensure that Udu Kingdom move forward; and we have come to restore total unity in the kingdom.”
Addressing the people at different communities in Urhobo language, the President General said; “I wish to state that there is need for us to revive our culture heritage in Udu. We must begin to teach our children how to speak the Urhobo language and culture because if we do not take this step, then in a decade or two from now, the Urhobo language may fade away. So we have also decided to begin a yearly cultural display and competitions on the Urhobo language (Udu dilate). We must return Udu back to its lost glory.”Â
He however promised to look into the various challenges affecting the different Communities and also draw government attention to them, in other for the Communities to be well developed. Â
Earlier, the various Communities at their separate speeches congratulated the President General of UUC, Comrade Austine Emaduku and his exco and also thanked for embarking on the familiarization tour to the 32 communities that make up Udu kingdom, vowing to continue to support Emaduku led administration till the end of his tenure.Â
They however, stated the challenges affecting them as; Constructions of Otor-Udu/Oghior to Okolorbotor Road, Ovworhokpokopr to Egini road, Owhrode/Orhuwhorun road, Ugbisi to Ubogo link road, solar street lights, solar water system, control of herdsmen activities and others.
They urged UUC to assist in appealing to the Delta state government and other relevant agencies to come to their aide, noting that these challenges if addressed, will speedily develop the communities and by extension Udu kingdom.
Communities already visited include; Ukperherhen, Ekrota, Emadjaja, Ugbisi, Ubogo, Ogbe-Udu, Okolor-Inland Oghior, Okolor-Oburie, Otor-Udu, Erhiephihor, Ovworhokpokopr, and Owhrode respectively.
