***Speaker Present Score Card After Seven Months Of Inauguration, Appeals To Colleagues To Reach Out To Constituents Positively

The Delta State House of Assembly, today, resumed plenary after the 2023 Christmas break with a call by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Guwor Emomotimi Dennis on members to always reach out to their constituents in the cause of their representations and law making.
In his welcome address delivered at the floor of the House during proceedings, Rt. Hon. Guwor noted that, Nigeria as a nation is presently faced with harsh economic problems that has plunged them into hardship and economic quagmire, but appealed to his colleagues to extend love and purposeful representation to their constituents, even as he appreciated them for their generosity to their constituents during the Christmas period.Â
Rt. Hon. Guwor who was so appreciative to God for life, excitedly welcomed all members from their recessed, and extends the House congratulations to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on his well deserved victory at the Supreme Court on January 19, 2024. He maintained that the decision of the Supreme Court is a re-affirmation of the landslide victory of the Governor during the Governorship election held on March 18, 2023.Â
He added that the victory is for all Deltans, democracy and the rule of law, stating that the decision of the apex Court is final. He called on all Deltans to join hands with the Governor in advancing Delta State with through MORE Agenda of the governor.
“Let us elevate the overall interest of developing the State above individual myopic interests.”
Commending the 8th assembly performances and achievements in the last seven months, Rt. Hon. Guwor acknowledged that so far, the House has recorded modest achievements as during the period under review, the House received seven Bills including Four Executive Bills and Three Private Member Bills.Â
Out of the seven bills he noted, four was received and passed through third reading, while three out of the four was assented to by the Governor and one of the bill awaiting to be assented to by the governor.Â
Going furthermore, the speaker noted that only two bills are presently undergoing processing by the House while one was withdrawn by the sponsors.
In addition to this he recounted, that the House also received, considered and passed resolutions on landmark motions and besides bills and motions, that the House also received nominations for appointment of persons into the State Executive Council, Agencies, Boards, Commissions and other parastatals of government.
“We dutifully screened and confirmed the nominations to enable the MORE Agenda of Governor Oborevwori’s administration hit the ground running.
“Distinguished colleagues, one of the hallmarks of the 8th Assembly in the last seven months was the passage into law of the 2024 Appropriation Bill which was assented to by the Governor on 20th December, 2023.Â
“The 2024 Budget of the State is rightly christened Budget of Hope and Optimism. In ensuring that our constituents and indeed the State enjoy the fruits of the Budget, the House will deploy its oversight tentacles in monitoring and evaluating implementation of the Budget.”
The speaker assured that the house priority is to engender accountability, probity, transparency and efficiency in the implementation of government policies, programmes and projects, while promising collaboration with the Executive and the Civil Society Organisations. Confirming that in line with legislative practice and commitment to deliver on constitutional mandate of law making, representation and oversight, the House shall hold a Retreat before the end of the month to articulate and draw up a Legislative Agenda for the 8th Assembly.Â
During his address, the speaker also commended Honourable Members for their high sense of commitment to the activities of the House and conduct during plenary. He appealed to them to continue to work together for the development, progress and unity of the State.
