Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has commended the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Arthur Akpowowo for his resilience in putting smiles on the faces of constituents.
Guwor who gave the commendation in his welcome address on resumption of plenary for the second session of the 8th Assembly, also praised the efforts of the Chief Whip of the House, Hon Perkins Umukoro in that regard.
The Deputy Speaker, Arthur Akpowowo, represents Ethiope East Constituency in the State Legislature, while the Chief Whip, Perkins Umukoro represents Sapele Constituency.
The two Legislators had embarked on Constituency briefings and massive empowerment programmes in their various Constituencies to commemorate the first year anniversary of their membership of the Delta State House of Assembly as they were sworn in along side twenty seven others on 13th June, 2023.
Reacting to the development, Speaker Emomotimi Guwor praised the efforts of the two Lawmakers, both Principal Officers of the House for the initiative to reach out to their constituents.
“Very importantly, I wish to commend the Deputy Speaker and the Chief Whip of the House for the constituencies engagements and empowerment programmes embarked upon during the break.
“Thank you for your kind gesture; you have set the ball rolling”, Guwor said.
The Speaker had while welcoming all to the first plenary of the Second Session of the 8th Assembly, expressed hope that the short break that preceded the resumption afforded them ample opportunities to meet and interact with constituents and to give account of their stewardship in the past one year of service as well as reflect on the lessons and experiences as Members of the Legislature.
“Dear colleagues, I believe we have rested, refreshed and reinvigorated to continue our legislative business. As we progress through the Second Session, we should bring to bear on the work the lessons learnt in the First Session.
“As representatives of the people in parliament, the people’s hope for good governance and dividend of democracy rest squarely on our shoulders”, Guwor stated.
Continuing the Speaker said “Collectively, we must serve with all passion, honour, integrity, cooperation and unity of purpose, in synergy with the Executive for the good of Deltans.
“Thankfully, the 8th Assembly Legislative Agenda is in tandem with the MORE AGENDA of His Excellency, Rt Hon (Elder) Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, the Governor of the State.
“We will therefore continue to give legal backing to the policies and programmes of the Oborevwori’s administration in order to do more for our people”.
Guwor reminded his colleagues that the Local Government Councils election is a week and few days, and urged all Deltans and residents in the state to come out en-mass on Saturday, 13th July, 2024 to cast their votes peacefully.
He called for the support of the Lawmakers as the House commenced on the new session of the 8th Assembly, stressing that their commitment and dedication towards legislative duties would always be appreciated.
“As you can see on the Order Paper and Business of the Week, there are very important Bills pending before the House for consideration and passage. I therefore implore all of us to brace up and ensure the passage of most of the Bills before the end of July.
“I wish to thank the management and staff of the Assembly for their support and cooperation with the leadership and Members of the House. I want to assure you that your welfare and continuous training for improved service delivery is highly regarded by the leadership of the House.
“In furtherance of this commitment, the 2024 training of staff of the Assembly and Commission has commenced on the 25th of June, 2024. The CONLESS issue is also being handled and will be resolved soon.
“Distinguished colleagues, let me reiterate that our collective effort and unity of purpose have accounted for the unparalleled successes recorded so far. And I am earnestly looking forward to more remarkable successes in this Second Session”, the Speaker said.
