Oshimili South Local Government Chairman in Delta State, Hon. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, Ph.D, has during an interaction session, ‘Mirror Platform’, organised by journalists of the Indigenous Correspondents Chapel of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Asaba, on Friday, November 24, 2023, gave some of his achievements since assumption of office.
The chairman whose local council area is situated in the heart of the state capital, Asaba, was represented by the Secretary to the Lical Government, Hon Brendan Iyeh alongside Barr. Mrs. Nwulu Ndidi, head, legal department.
He highlighted some of his achievements made to include; setting up of the economic team and advisory body Committee, Construction of an Ultra Modern Legislative Complex and Equipment with state of the art facilities, Renovation of the Executive Complex with Furniture’s, Installation of close circuit television (CCTV Cameras) within the executive complex with plans to extend to the entire Secretariat and the Purchase of a 200KVA standby Generator to provide uninterrupted power supply to the Secretariat.
Others notable achievements he mentioned included; the Harmonious working relationship with the legislative/management staff that resulted in a yearly early passage of the budgets, Collaboration with security personnels by ensuring consistency of the monthly security meeting with all stakeholders in the local government and the provision of basic needs for local vigilante groups, Partnering with the private sector in a PPP arrangement to improve the infrastructural development of the local government council’s land by revamping/reconstructing the abandoned staff quarters into a modern housing apartment on behalf of the council, Introduction of an automated system for local government identification process and revenue collection for the council and engagement of over 240 youths as environmental marshalls to enforce compliance to ensuring a clean and safe environment, Establishment of a mobile environment court to prosecute offenders and Partnering with Ecobank Nigeria PLC to empower female petty traders at 0% interest rate.
He noted that the administration ensures the restoration of power supply at the Ogbe-ogonogo modern market by refurbishing the transformer and offsetting 50% of outstanding electricity bills. The administration also made available the provision of continuous welfare and Christmas packages to staff and the electorate as well as the continuous participation in the sponsorship of the annual ALGON Sports festival.
Also notable in his achievements is the Partnership with renowned authors to provide and distribute books on the eradication of cultism to both primary and secondary school students in the local government area and offsetting over 60% of outstanding debts owed contractors by precious administration and the Transmission of executive bills to the legislative house on the amendment of the revenue bye-law and a bill to eradicate scavenging in the local government area.

He said the council also embarked on the renovation of the revenue court in the are and continuous grading of streets and roads in the local government area, PPP arrangement for the reconstruction/landscapping and provision of solar light/furnishing of Ogwa Ukwu Ahaba as welk as the ongoing construction of ultra modern event center at Oko Amakom and the reconstruction of a culvert/mini bridge between Oko Ogbele and Oko Anala.
On the role and importance of the media, Dr. Ezenyili, acknowledged the successes recorded so far as the council chairman couldn’t have been possible with proper information dissemination by the press played.
While appreciating the people of Oshimili South LGA for their support, cooperation and understanding, he assured them of spreading the development plan of his administration across the entire local government area.
He also pledged his commitment and unflinching support to the Indigenous Correspondent Chapel and the NUJ in realizing their goals and aspirations.
Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Orusi Kenneth, appreciated the council chairman for his developmental projects across the council especially Asaba, which doubles as the State capital.
Comrade Orusi thanked him for operating an open door policy and always opening his doors for the chapel whenever they came calling
and also used the medium to inform and solicits support from Hon. Ezeyinli, of the chapels executives one year anniversary in office and its Press Week coming up in March 2024.
