Chairman of the Delta State Football Association DFA, Chief Hon. Godwin Adode, has disclosed the DFA’s preparedness to partner with the Delta State Health Contributory Scheme DSCHC, in order to give footballers both active and retired leverages in accessing quality medical care through the state health commission.
Adode gave the disclosure when he paid a working visit to the DG, Delta State Health Contributory Commission (DSHCS), Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, in Asaba, were he outlined strategic plans to enhance healthcare access for both active and retired footballers in the state.
The former Ughelli North Local Government boss while highlighting some of the challenges footballers’ undergo, noted that sometimes, footballers battles with injuries, chronic illnesses and due to financial constraints they are often deprive of accessing quality healthcare.
“Many footballers struggle to afford proper medical care during and after their careers, and this is why the current DFA board is dedicated to ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare for them.
“This partnership aimed developing a healthcare framework specifically designed to meet the needs of athletes both active and retired”.
Hon. Adode said, the health insurance scheme will focus on critical areas such as injury management, rehabilitation and mental health support, while also promoting healthcare awareness within the football community across the state.
Commending the state Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Deltans through the MORE agenda, Adode noted, that the Governor’s efforts to improve the well-being of Deltans are remarkable and expressing his optimism that the partnership with the health scheme will have over 2,000 footballers registered under the health scheme.
He thanked Dr. Akpoveta for his dedication to improving healthcare services in the state.
Responding, Dr. Akpoveta described the collaboration as a visionary step toward improving the welfare of athletes. He said football is a sport that demands both physical and mental fitness, and only healthy individuals can perform optimally. He added that the initiative aligns perfectly with the state government’s goal of delivering accessible and quality healthcare to every Deltan.
Dr. Akpoveta later called on Hon. Adode and other stakeholders to support the inclusion of indigent individuals in the scheme to broaden its impact.
