Rt. Hon. Oborevwori who sympathised with the victims, assured of government support in cushioning their effects, stating that though it is a natural disaster, but government will not fold its hands and allow the citizens to suffer hardship.
He noted that his visit is to sympathized with them, give them his little support and to ascertain the level of disaster caused by the flood, adding that the state government is doing everything within its reach to ensure Deltans are safe.
He later donated bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of garri, tubers of yams, salts, toiletries, waters and other relief materials to the 1,016 flood victims.
Recounting their loses, some of the internally displaced persons said, the flood has brought them devasting effects as they have lost all they have laboured for over the years. But expressed gratitude to the speaker for his kind gesture, calling on other well meaning individuals to also come to their aids.
Receiving the items, the camp commandant and representative of the State Emergency Management Agency SEMA, Mrs. Elizabeth Chukwura, thanked the speaker, stating that their only challenge they had in the camp was feeding the people, but said, now that the speakers has brought them food, they will be able to manage the number of victims on ground.
She thanked the state government for the prompt response and attention giving to the ravaging flood victims especially in the Isoko axis of the state.
At Alaka Grammar School Ozoro, the IDP camp for victims in Isoko North Local Governments Area, the 1,180 flood victims also received relief materials including rice, beans, garri, yams, salts and water from the speaker.
Coordinator of the camp, Mr. Vincent Ohwofadjeke also appreciated the speaker for the donation, but calls for more beddings and mattresses.
He said, “We have 1,180 IDP’s here, but we only have 500 mattress which is not enough for the victims”.
He appealed to the state government and other spirited individuals to assist them with mattresses. While thanking all donors so far, Mr. Vincent also appreciated the victims for comporting themselves in a proper manner since they arrived.
