The Delta State Police Commissioner, Ari Muhammed Ali, has assured the Vice Chancellor of the Delta State University Abraka, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga of his Command readiness in partnering and providing maximum security to the institution.
CP Muhammed gave this assurance on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area during his courtesy visit to the University Community.
The CP who was warmly received by the Vice Chancellor and top management Staff of the Institution, during his speech, noted that every University environment needs proper policing as it comprises of vulnerable youths who need to be guided against cultism, internet fraud and other related practices that will affect them negatively. He promise that the Command is ever ready to partner with the school in order to achieve a conducive and peaceful environment for the staff and students, adding that as community policing driven officer, the need to partner with all stakeholders cannot be over emphasized.
He called on the management of the Institution to always reach out to the DPO or the Area Commander in the area whenever the need arises but said in a situation they don’t get the desired results, his office is open 24 hours to handle such issues.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor disclosed that the CP’S visit is first of its kind in the existence of the Institution, maintaining that the Commissioner of Police is a goal-oriented Police officer who has his agenda well spelt out, stating that he is sure the security in the State under the administration of CP Ari Muhammed Ali will be a very solid one.
Also, the Commissioner of Police also visited Abraka Police Station where he had brief lecture with officers and men of the Division.
The CP during his lecture stressed on the need for officers to be civil while dealing with members of the public, noting that Abraka and its environs is a University Community where majority are students, hence policing such a student community may not be entirely the same with policing a commercial community.
The CP said students can easily ignite crisis if they are not properly managed, stressing that students are our children, brothers and sisters and must be handled with care (Human face). The CP however warned in strong terms against extortion of any kind, involvement in crime, fraternizing with criminals, violation of human rights. This he said will not be tolerated as any officer found wanting will be decisively dealt with. He also emphasized on the need for policemen to neatly and smartly dress as it will determine how they will be accessed by members of the public.
