The Delta State Police Command has announced the successful neutralization of a notorious kidnapping syndicate responsible for several abductions across the state.
The gang, led by Abubakar Usman, alias “Shehu,” was behind the kidnapping of a medical doctor in Issele-Uku, where a ransom of ₦15 million was collected.
Operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team, led by ASP Julius Robinson, arrested Usman on April 10, 2025.
During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and led the police to the gang’s hideout.
A fierce gun battle ensued when the suspects engaged the police, resulting in the deaths of four suspects, including Usman.
The police recovered three AK-47 rifles and 90 rounds of live ammunition.
The gang was also responsible for the kidnapping and murder of Esther Ojoh, a realtor in Ibusa, and the kidnapping of the wife and daughter of Mr. Godwin Anuka, who was killed during the incident.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the bravery of the operatives and urged others to emulate their courage.
He appreciated the public for providing valuable information and appealed for continued support, assuring residents that the command would not disappoint under his leadership.
