Deputy President of the Senate and Senator representing Delta Central in the National Assembly, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has today, Thursday May 26, 2023 emerged as the All Progressives Congress APC, governorship flag bearer in Delta after pulling 1,190 votes out of the 1235 delegates.
The APC governorship primaries which was held at the Federal College of Education Technical Asaba, had Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as the sole candidate as the primaries was observed by the Independent National Electoral Coomission (INEC) Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rev. Monday Udo Tom, Security Agents and Journalists.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,350 delegates made the list, but 1,235 delegates were accredited and1,191 delegates voted, with one invalid vote, leaving Omo-Agege with a total of 1,190 valid votes.
In a brief interview with Journalists, Senator Omo-Agege expressed gratitude to the APC national officers, and declared his acceptance of his nomination as APC governorship flag bearer in Delta, assuring party faithful of his preparation to lock horns with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori come 2023. He further disclosed that the APC is well prepared to take over the mantle of leadership from the PDP, adding that the Egyptian they see today, they shall see them no more.
Earlier before voting commenced, Rev. Udo Tom told delegates that it was necessary by law for INEC officials to monitor primary exercise, pointing out that the rules states that there must be physical voting even if its only one aspirant and urged party members to conduct themselves in an orderly manners..
Delegates from the three senatorial districts of Delta North, Delta Central and Delta South were accredited and duly voted according to their local government.
Declaring the results, Chairman of the APC electoral committee from Abuja, Mrs. Oyibo Nwaneri said, Senator Omo-Agege having scored a total vote of 1,190 votes, he was therefore the winner of the primary election.
