A Police Constable attached to the Ofuoma Division under the Ughelli Area Command in Delta State, has been detained for allegedly stabbing a bereaved family member of a slain policeman, Late Constable Ujeyah Mathias after a heated argument.
The officer identified as, PC Aaron Omosomofa is currently being detained awaiting orderly room trial for his alleged professional misconduct.
Sources who witnessed the scene disclosed that, Police Constable Aaron Omosomofa in company of other of his colleagues had gone to meet with the bereaved family of the slain officer in preparation for his burial rites slated for March 26, 2023 at Uwheru community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
In the process, there was an alleged arguments between the Constable and family member which led to the alleged stabbing of one of the family members of the late policeman.
Recalled that the late Ujeyah Mathias was murdered by unknown gunmen penultimate weekend at Ekredjebor community near Ughelli in Ughelli North Local Government Area along side his other colleague whose identity is yet to be ascertained. It was also gathered that one Police Sergeant, Mr. Ijebu was seriously injured and two AK-47 riffles belonging to the police allegedly carted away.
Though the Delta State Police Command has kept mum over the killing, but it was learned that the bereaved family of late Ujeyah Mathias, (29), have concluded plans to lay their son to rest at Erovie quarters of Uwheru Community in Ughelli North.
The death of Ujeyah Mathias, his unidentified colleague and late Inspector Ifeanyi who was abducted and murdered and his corpse discovered at Evwreni bush, are the most recent security threats within weeks in Ughelli Town.
A senior security source from the State Police Command who spoke on the incident, however blamed policemen for being too casual and indiscipline in performing their professional duty.
He further confirmed that the erring officer has been detained in line with an order given by the Area Commander at the Ughelli ‘A’ Division on Wednesday.
When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe said, “It is an internal matter please.
