Prior to the off-circle governorship election in Edo State, Nigeria Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun Ph.D, has warned the general public and citizens of Edo state to desist from any form of disruptive violence that could marre the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Speaking on Channel Television Sunrise Daily programme and monitored by Southern voice news.com, IGP Egbetokun warned that anyone caught with any weapons during the period, will be treated as criminal.
He called on political parties to cautioned their followers to desist from any form of violence and attack that could disrupt the election. He noted that though the police has a minimal role to play in the conduct of election with new innovations and modalities invented by INEC in conducting elections, the police will not hesitate in its duties of maintaining laws and orders and ensuring a peaceful and successful elections.
The IGP also stated that the Police will not tolerate any actions by political miscreants that are poised to destabilize elections processes come Saturday.
