Two teachers of Ibru College in Agbarha-Otor Community, of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, only identify as Mr. Agofure R. and Mr. Etuh G., have been punished to clean the staff toilets for one month.
The punishment came after they were found guilty of fighting within the school premises in a video that went viral were one of the the teacher was seen attempting to kill his colleague for an unknown reasons.
Meanwhile, an unconfirmed report revealed that the teachers have been suspended by the state government, and that both teachers have been recommended for transfer to other public schools, a move aimed at maintaining discipline at the secondary school named after Nigeria foremost business mogul, late Michael Ibru.
Beyond the school’s sanctions, the duo has been directed to report to the Ughelli Zonal Office of the Delta State Post-Primary Education Board for further interrogation regarding the incident.
However, pending a final decision by the board, the teachers have been suspended from duty.
The school’s disciplinary committee, in its report, condemned the fight as a violation of professional ethics and imposed a series of penalties on them.
It would be recalled that the fight between the teachers drew strong criticism from parents and educators alike.
Also, one of the teachers, Mr. Etuh G., has been ordered to vacate his official quarters within the school compound within a month.
Confirming the decision, the school’s Principal, Mr. Akporube L.O., emphasized that Ibru College maintains a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct among staff.
He reiterated the importance of discipline and professionalism in the teaching profession, stating that the institution will not condone any behavior that undermines ethical standards.
Reacting to the incident, a Senior Lecturer at Southern Delta University, Dr. Precious Omoruwou, condemned the action of the teachers, attributing it to a faulty recruitment process in engaging educators.
She called for continuous training and retraining of educators, pointing out that they are supposed to be molders and role models to those they teach.
She added that educators must not be allowed to behave in an uncivil manner but should uphold very high standards of discipline, as their actions and inactions have a direct impact on shaping society in its entirety to clean staff toilets for fighting inside school.

Meanwhile, Deltans have condemned the state commissioner for secondary education, Mrs. Roseline Ezewu for her quietness since the fighting between the two teachers that went viral. They said had it been that the teachers killed each other, the state government could have by now made a public statement. They blamed one the teachers for attempting to end the life of his colleague, an action they condemned and recommend a compulsory retirement for him as he could have killed the other teacher.
They called in the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori to follow up the matter strictly and use the two teachers as a clear example to others.
