Says Ewu Ward 1 Deserves Chairmanship Position
By Godwin-Maria UTUEDOYE
Following agitations by some individuals in Ewu Ward 2 and 3 calling for the chairmanship position to leave Ewu Ward 1, Hon. Anthony Isikuru, one of the frontline Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Chairmanship aspirants and renowned grassroot politician in Ewu town, Ughelli South LGA, has said certain indices needed to be looked upon critically and politically before taking decisions.
Speaking to a group of PDP faithful at Otor-Ewu, Friday, the famous grassroot mobilizer argues that; “Politics shouldn’t just be it is my turn, but also the voting strength.
” For instance, the voting strength of Ewu Ward 1, is much more than that of Ewu Ward 2 and 3 that are calling for local government chairmanship position.
“If you put together the entire Ewu Ward 2 and 3, it is not still more than that of Ewu Ward 1. So, I am thinking the party leaders in their wisdom and future projections will do something favorable to the party and the good people of the zone.
While appealing for other contestants to give him a chance, Hon. Isikuru noted, that amongst all appointed Personal Assistants to Governors at one time or the other, the records are there, and people can testify to his performances.
“As an SA to the governor, I knew how and what I achieved with that small office. My followers knew how much I impacted their lives from the little I was receiving, and I am still assuring all that I will do more than they expected from a local government chairman.Â
“I am a grassroot man. I live in Ewu here, and by God grace if given the opportunity, I will live here for work and as well return back here as my families are all here with me”.
“I may be the youngest amongst all the contestants, but I know my strength and popularity in Ughelli South. I have learned, worked, served faithfully and also loyal to the party, and politically I know I have the potentials, capacity, qualities, knowledge and requisite experience to run the local government to an enviable heights”.
Reacting to some persons who called him a ‘small boy in Ewu politics’, Hon. Isikuru said; Jesus Christ was not the oldest, and that in his own time, it is not the eldest persons in the community that must be chosen as a leader, but whoever God has chosen, hence his case might be differnet.
” I agree, i am younger than most of my co-contestants, but that is not to say, politically they are more recognized, known or experienced than myself. It is not age that teaches one what is good or right, because there are old people who are wicked and inexperience in terms of leadership. So, I am not bothered but one thing is very much certain, Hon. Tony Isikuru is known to the people, lives with and among the people with his wife, children and above all, he is free and accessible.
“We know who is who here, and during voting or elections, we know our strength, so those agitating that it shouldn’t come from Ewu main town might not be doing the party and the state well“.
