The people of Ase-Omuku community, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, are presently in shock and have cried out over the invasion of the community by unidentified gunmen who beheaded one Chief Okwudili Obi and shot others.
Mr. Victor Enebeli, youth President and younger brother to the deceased, who briefed Journalists in Ase-Umoku on Friday, condemned the ugly incident which occured on Wednesday.
According to him, “At about 11:00 hours on Wednesday, February 2, 2023, some gunmen went to the house of one of our leader at Umutu as he was their prime target.
“But, when they could not get him because as he was not at home, at about 3:00 am, some community members led the gunmen into the community and started shooting sporadically and shot for almost one hour, and in the process killing a community Chief Okwudili Obi and cut off his head.”
The community youth president also alleged that one young man was killed and a young boy of about 13 years also killed by a stray bullet but his mother is said yo be receiving treatment at a hospital.
Enebeli however commended the military personnel at Sterling Energy Exploration and Production Company ( SEEPCO) for prompt intervention to chase the gunmen out of the community.
He further revealed that as the gunmen were running out of the community, shot a Police officer dead at Ashaka and as well shot two solder including an army Major at kwale. The Major has been confirmed dead.
The gunmen vehicle was said to have developed engine fault at Ashaka but abandoned it for another.
According Enebeli, three other injured persons were taken to Breman hospital Kwale were the gunmen went to just finish their life, but unfortunately, they met a military check point and released fire immediately, killing the army Major and two other army.
Enebeli however condemned the incident and described it as barbaric and inhuman, noting that irrespective of differences among Indigenes of Ase-Umoku community, it should not lead to killing of fellow indigenes.
He said the relevant authority including the Nigeria Police and the military have already been informed over the incident.
Another source in the community also called on the Delta State Government and it’s security outfit especially Operation Delta Hawk to commence thorough investigation on the incident and arrest persons involved in the senseless killing and beheading of an innocent Chief Okwudili Obi by gunmen.
