…Says Its False, Unfounded
By Spence Friday Idighri,
The Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Patrick Muoboghare has described as false and unfounded allegations made by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State to the effect that there is ulterior motive behind the recently established three universities in the State.
And that the purpose is to primarily de-market other Universities particularly Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU) and by extension its Campus at Oleh in favour of University of Delta,Agbor especially its Campus at Owa – Alero, the governor hometown.
Prof.Muoboghare while reacting said the claims by the opposition that there was a promise of better salaries and other benefits to would-be Lecturers at the Owa-Alero Campus of the Faculty of Law of the new University thereby prompting the movement of fifteen Associate Professors of Law from DELSU to Agbor was very far from the truth and therefore should be ignored.
The truth regarding this according to the Commissioner was that “as at today only one Professor of Law has been engaged to lay the foundation for the new Faculty in preparation for engagement of more qualified lawyers and other staff.” But he however said that nothing stops DELSU from providing the fulcrum of staff for the three new universities just as the University of Ibadan did to ABU,OAU,UNN and others during the colonial era.
The Higher Education Commissioner who was flanked by his Information counterpart,Charles Aniagwu during the briefing stressed that government can never and will never attempt any policy that will lead to the collapse of both the Law and Engineering Faculties of DELSU in particular and other Faculties at that.
On the Public Private Partnership(PPP) allegation, he said private sector can come in the area of provision of hostel accommodation, electricity, internet services among others. Insisting that such partnership will not necessarily translate or lead to the children of the poor from accessing university education.
While appealing to the opposition to be constructive in their criticisms and stop playing politics with the Educationional sector, assured Deltans that the Okowa-led government will”spend all to ensure that the future of Deltans is glorious “.
