More than seven men including Godwin Adode, Ughelli North Local Government Chairman, are desperately lobbying Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to be appointed the chairman of Delta State Sports Commission.
Investigation by our eagle eye reporter revealed that Chief Tonobokk Okowa, a younger brother of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is among them.
The Pond News understands that Okowa tenure ends on February 11 2024.
He is said to have recruited his brother, the former governor to lobby Oborevwori for the position.
Others who are sending their CV to the governor are Mr Sam Sodje, Mr Godwin Adode, chairman Ughelli North LGA.
Even a present member of the Sports Commission board Ernest Juweto wants to graduate to the chairmanship position.
Mr Harrison Ochulor a sports journalist is also among those angling for the position and so is Mr Onogagamue.
But the favourite for the position is Onos Oborevwori, a relation of the governor.
The Pond News understands that the scramble for the position is so fierce that the contenders are deploying all available means to convince the governor of their suitability.
Majority of the aspirants are from Delta Central senatorial district.
The Delta State Sports Commission is a goldmine more lucrative than most ministries and government agencies.
But Oborevwori said that his predecessor, former Governor Okowa does not interfer in his administration.
He said that unlike other former Governors of some States, Okowa respects the office of the Governor.
Governor Oborevwori disclosed this on Sunday February 4th 2024, in his remarks at the 60th birth and 24th marriage anniversary thanksgiving of the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorogun Kingsley Esiso at Living Faith Church, Shell Road, Sapele.
