A grant of 400 million naira has been approved for Forty missionary schools in Delta State by the State Government.
This was made known on Tuesday, June 28, by Commissioner For information Delta State, Mr. Charlse Aniagwu immediately after the Executive Council Meeting (Exco) presided by the deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro.
Mr Aniagwu said that each school will receive a grant of 10million naira in other to improve their facilities.
“In the last seven years we have taking a whole lot of time and effort to upgrade the number of schools that are run by the government, but since the return of the number of schools to the missionaries, by the last administration we had hoped that they too should be able to cope fully”.
Mr. Aniagwu flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor CPS, Mr. Olisa Ifejika maintained that these schools have done so well in adding value to pupils over the years.
He noted that there is need for existing facilities to be upgraded because there has been an expansion in the number of intake and other.
His words” one major decision we took was how to assist these schools returned to missionaries, we believe that the children who attend these schools are also Deltans and are our children which will boost human capital development, of which at the end of the day will dove tail into improved learning condition for our children”.
Speaking further he said exco also approved the construction of 240 hostel bed spaces for male and female each at Dennis Osadebe university for the 21st National Sport Festival taking place in Asaba.
Approval was also made on the construction of an indoor sport complex that will accommodate a number of other games within the Stephen Keshi Staduim .
He also said Exco approved the construction of an additional lecture hall for Nigerian Maritine University Okorikoko in warri South/West Local Government Area which is a federal institution of which Delta State government have assisted in number of areas.
According to information commissioner, roads approved for construction includes the reconstruction of the first phase of the Old Lagos – Asaba road from Umunede to Obior.
Six adjoining streets in Asaba were also approved for construction as well as the construction of drainage channels to connect the Asaba storm water control project.
