Ad-hoc-Staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ughelli North Local Government Area have protested the non payment of their training allowance after the conduct the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly election held on Saturday, February 25.
The protesting adhoc-staff mainly Youth Corpers and ex-corpers berated their Supervisory Presiding Officers, SPOs and Electoral Officer, Mr Samuel Osolease for treating them like slaves after discharging their duties during the elections.
Addressing newsmen at INEC office in Ughelli, an ex-corper, who identified himself as Precious said, “We have been here at the INEC office in Ughelli North since Friday without any place to sleep
“We slept under the dew because there was no provision even after CBN has provided logistics for this training and the INEC officer has blatantly refused to pay us our allowances.
They want to pay us through transfer after the Central Bank of Nigeria gave them cash to pay us, we will not take transfer but the cash as provided by CBN.
“The Electoral Officer want to sell our money to PoS operators and we are saying no to his antics. He should provide the money raw”.
Another Youth Corper, Auwal Alexander said, We have been here for the past three days without any accommodation and we have done our job but to pay us our training allowances is now a problem.
“The Electoral Officer told us that the raw cash is with him and in next one hour, we are going to be paid now he is resulting to make transfer, we will not accept it.
Other protesters who spoke in the same vein includes, Aghogho, Mrs Idimi Maureen all serving Corpers in Ughelli North.
Efforts speak with the Ughelli North Electoral Officer was not successful as he was not on seat as at the time of this report.
