Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, has tasked Journalists in the state on the need to rebrand their career and throw out quacks that always take the name of the noble profession to the mud.
The veteran journalist and spoke person of the Delta State Governor gave the remarks while addressing the Exco members of the Indigenous Correspondents Chapel (ICC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Delta State Council on Monday, May 22, in his office.
Mr. Ifeajika who pointed out the need for Journalists to build long lasting relationships even in the line of duty, noted that instead of relying on meagre brown envelopes that most a time demean the journalists of his or her dignity and reputation, it is better to make out good name and establish relationship with people.
He urged journalists to take advantage of developmental journalism which is invoke in modern day and use same to direct the governments, attention to good governance and as well shun falsehood and misinformation in their reportage.
In his words; “If you are not sure of it; don’t write or publish it”. The thorough bred Chief Press Secretary, also advised journalists to explore other public beats including the court, police amongst others irrespective of who is involved or what benefits is attached.
He further encouraged all male practicing Journalists to take their dressing seriously to avoid the embarrassment or risk of been addressed according to their dressing.
Earlier in his speech, Chairman of Indigenous Correspondents Chapel, Comr Kenneth Orusi, thanked the CPS for his time despite his very tight schedule especially in the wake of transition from one government to another. Comr. Orusi also commended the CPS for his stint of professionalism in handling the office as the mouth piece of the Governor, noting that though it is so challenging, yet its beautifully managed by him.
Highpoints of the visit was the introduction of the new executives to the CPS.
