The much awaited Urhobo Progress Union UPU, Youngwing elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 28, has been stopped by an order of interim injunction.
The interim injunction restrained Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Chief Ese Gam Owe, UPU President General, Rev. Fr. Chris Ekabo JP, Ph.D, Chairman, UPU Youth Wing election committee, Chief Emmanuel Omovie, Secretary, UPU Youth Wing election committee from conducting the 2023 UPU youth wing election scheduled for the 28th of October 2023.
An aggrieved Indigene of Ewu-,Urhobo Kingdom, Comrade Ochuko Okagbare, had approached the High Court of Justice, Warri, on Thursday, saying that Ewu youths were not allowed to participate in the said elections
Justice V.O. Aboje after granting the motion to suspend the election till the suit is determined, adjourned the case for hearing to November 14, 2023.
Meanwhile, observers hope the legal obstruction will be dealt with soonest in order for the highly anticipated elections to be conducted by Rev. Fr.. Ekabo, who has expressed willingness to deliver a free and fair election.
Recall that this is the first time in years that Urhobo youths will be coming under one umbrella to choose executive members for the youth body after the Chief Joe Omene and Olorogun Moses Taiga rift split the socio-cultural body. Before now, the youthwing had at least three factions.
