The Guild Of Online Media Editors And Publishers, (GOMEP) Nigeria, a body of over 75 registered online media publishers has condemned in strongest terms, the brutal torture of a female employee of Don Meserati Classic Boutique in Lagos over alleged theft.
A viral video earlier posted by Naija News House shows some men brutally assaulting a female employee of the boutique accused of theft, reportedly on the orders of the owner of the establishment.
The viral video shows about four men brutally flogging the lady while she rolled on the ground in the boutique.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of GOMEP, Mr. Dominic Edet Edem described the torture as barbaric and called on law enforcement agencies to take appropriate actions and carry out a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
GOMEP said, “We received a disturbing video of Don Meserati Boutique owner in Lagos, torturing one of the salesgirls over an allegation of theft.
“As a media body, with a firm belief in justice, we condemn this barbaric act and call on law enforcement to take action.
“Torture is a crime against humanity and a gross violation of fundamental human rights. It has no place in any society.
“It is very wrong for well meaning individuals and responsible organisations to keep quiet on this type of dehumanization, and that is why GOMEP is lending her voice.
“If the boutique owner truly confirms the lady stole any of what she is accused of, the right thing to do was to follow due process by contacting the authority”, GOMEP concluded.
