A middle-aged man was today, set ablaze in Ughelli town, Ughelli North Local Area, Delta State, following an alleged attempt to rob a POS operator.
The suspected hoodlum was set ablaze on yesterday morning after an attempt to rob his victim of her valuables items.
It was learnt that the deceased allegedly attacked a female POS attendant at Evueta street, adjacent to UBA with a local gun to attack her.
Luck ran out of him as the POS attendant raised alarm and he was followed by hot chase by mob who later set him ablaze at the NNPC roundabout.
An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, said that the robber robbed the POS’ shop at Evueta street with a local gun.
“The hoodlum was to rob a POS shop at Evueta street day morning with a local gun and snatched the small bag from the POS operator not knowing that the main money was not there.
“As the girl raised alarm, he brought out his gun trying to shoot. I don’t know whether the gun disappointed him or not, but he quickly ran with the bag.
“People went after him, as he tried to escape through another street opposite the NNPC roundabout, he was caught and beaten to stupor. He was dragged on the ground to the place where he was set ablaze.”
When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Dsp Edafe Bright denied knowledge of it, saying the incident has not been reported at the police headquarters.
