The Managing Director of Dafesto Pharmacy Obiaruku, Mr. Dafe Onogharigho,has urged youths of Ndokwa nation to shun drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
This advice was given during a seminar organized by Centre for Education Development and Skills Acquisition Initiative (CEDESA) in Elovie Quarters Town Hall, Abbi, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State to mark United Nations’ International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Addressing Drug Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crisis”.
Mr. Onogharigho who delivered a lecture on the occasion opined that the social problem of drug abuse and illicit trafficking has become endemic and consequently endangering public health and safety. He stated that about 200 million people currently abuse drugs in the globe. He pointed out that the rate of youths frig abuse is alarming and calls for concern. According to him, “drug abuse has serious socio-economic and health related challenges.
The Chief Executive Officer of CEDESA who organized the occasion, Mrs Iyabo Oluronke Ugbe, in her welcome address stressed that the aim of the seminar was to strengthen action and co-operation in achieving the goal of a world free from drug abuse and to educate the youths on the dangers associated with drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The Chairman of the occasion, Hon Charles Emetulu, member of the Delta State House of Assembly who was represented by Hon. Frank Enwefah, Special Adviser to the Governor on political matters emphasized the need to enlighten the youths on the consequences of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He stated that there is the need for regular and concerted campaign against drug abuse amongst the youths and parents alike. He pledged to support CEDESA in this crusade.
Highlights of the occasion include the donation of books to participants including TRUE AND QUALITY EDUCATION written by the converner, counselings and prayer sessions.
Among dignitaries that graced the occasion were Ass.Prof Felix Ugbe of Delta State University, Abraka, Mrs Edna Ojieh, Dennis Osadebe University, Asaba, Comrade O. J Okorigwe, an Educational Consultant and Mrs Esther Illoh, an educationist amongst others.
