Illicit Drugs worth over Twenty Two million naira has been handed over by the Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in Kebbi State.
Handing over the drugs to the NDLEA in Birnin kebbi on Monday, August 14, the Area Customs Comptroller, Dr. Ben Oramalugo said, the feat is part of the command’s effort in collaborating with the NDLEA in ridding the state and the country of illicit drugs and harmful substances.
Oramalugo noted that the seized drugs and other items including 138 packs of Tramaking/Tramadol 225mg, 81 tablet size of Cannibis Sativa, one used Toyota Camry 2007 model as as means of conveyance.
Other items seized includes, 46 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg, 40 25kg bags of rice, 88 bales of second hand clothes, 4,200 liters of PMS, 525 litres of diesel and 37 kegs of vegetable oil, among others.
The custom boss also disclosed that the duty cost value of the seized items is N51,499,314.
He said; “You may not fail to observe that notable among the seizures are cannabis Sativa and hard drugs Worth N 22,132,077 which is also been handed over to NDLEA. Continuing he said; the seizure of such drugs is in line with the commitment we made during our previous press briefing that we are determined to rid kebbi State of drug inflow and all items capable of causing harm to Nigeria” .
The Area Comptroller stated that the coup d’etat in neighbouring Niger Republic and subsequent closure of our border with the affected West Africa country has sharply affected the revenue generation drive in the state.
“The command still managed to take in a whopping sum of N99,282547 in the month of July alone, which is 113% of our monthly revenue target, he disclosed.
“We visited the good people of Kamba in Dandi local government area on Saturday, August 5, 2023 and this timely visit was to ensure total compliance to the border closure sanction, and we also used the opportunity to sympathize with the host communities and our stakeholders who use Kamba as an import / export hub. The command assured them that diplomatic engagement is ongoing to resolve the matter amicably.
Earlier, the state commander of NDLEA, Mr. Usman Suleiman commended the Nigeria Customs Service for effort in collaborating with the NDLEA in riding the state and the country of illicit drugs and harmful substances.
He said everybody is responsible to fight against illicit drugs in the country.
