The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Asaba Zone, represented by the Executive committee and few members Tuesday, September 28, 2021, presented writing materials to pupils of Uzoigwe, Zappa and Ogbe-Afor Primary Schools in Asaba, Delta State.
The distribution team was led by the Chairman of the Zone comprising Oshimili South and North local government areas, Dr. Oge Great Nwokwule.
According to the Chairman as he briefed newsmen, “We are doing this as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility of touching lives positively, especially those who are considered to of necessity be in need of these items.
“We have often engaged in projects aimed at giving back to society. Last year, we were also at various schools distributing waste bins to them as a way of encouraging cleanliness and hygienic environment.
“This year, we have produced more than enough customized writing materials to these three primary schools earmarked to benefit. This is what we are used to and we intend to continue to give back to our various communities, just as government alone cannot meet all of the needs of our people and children.
“My advice to other professional bodies is to incorporate this kind of initiative into their policies and programmes as a way of helping to advance the course of humanity. Nothing is too small, it’s just a question of mindset. So, I am using this opportunity not only to call on professional bodies but also good spirited individuals to ensure that they play a role at every given opportunity to serve society.
“Don’t forget that what we are doing is equally a kind of mentorship that instills passion in the children to learn to give back to society when they attain maturity in life.
“Let me assure our pupils that if they study hard and be humble, they can attain any height in life. What we are doing today is a kind of motivation for them to know that there are people in the society who love and care about them.
We are involved in this charitable work to help enhance the much the government is doing to develop the education sector. Next, it could be the kids giving back to society as a way of paying back this kind of laudable gesture from us. When all of us play a role, together we can make the society a better place to live in”, Dr. Nwokwule said.
Going forward in a couple of days, the NMA Asaba Zone had equally promised to refurbish the sick-bay in some Primary Schools within the zone to enhance quick medicare.
Dr. Nwokwule affirmed that the sick-bay would be overhauled and delivered to enable the schools operate a holding bay for sick pupils for immediate medical attention before proper referrals.
