By Godwin-Maria Utuedoye
Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has said there is no way Deltans will allow the state to be govern by another incompetent and fraudulent hand like the speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Ohwode Oborevwori, describing him as failed and leader of a rubber stamp legislatures.
Speaking during the inauguration of the APC campaign Council at the APC Campaign office , Asaba Delta State, Senator Omo-Agege lamented the backwardness of the state, and that the Okowa-led administration has held the state to ransom in the last seven years.
The governorship noted that the Senator Okowa led administration has plunged the state into backwardness despite the huge allocations and undeclared Internally Generated Revenues that come in monthly.
“Delta State is one of the states that receives highest allocation from the federal government both in FAAC and Derivation, but due to poor leadership of the PDP, what we have on ground today is not commensurable to what the state generates”.
“Deltans will vote out the PDP incompetency, vote out fraudulent stooge of Ifeanyi Okowa that have nothing to offer, but to cover his corruption”.
Omo-Agege said the PDP Governorship candidate and Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is a stooge of the governor and has thrown the principles of checks and balances to the dustbin.
While thanking all APC members, Senator Omo-Agege assured them of the party prepare, hr charged Deltans to vote out the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming General Elections.
“I assure you of the party preparedness to win the elections. We are fully prepared and ready to win the elections. It is our time and we are going to win this election”.
He noted that there are over 5,800 units in the state and no one man can steal or snatched all the ballot boxes, but said even if they do, the APC will close mark them.
He appealed to party faithful to ensure all the party candidates wins from their units.
He urged all to do away with the wrong notion of Muslim-Muslim ticket, as Nigerians will not vote for another Northerner after eight years. He stressed the importance of winning all the seats from the presidency to the state houses of assembly, and as such, there is need for them to support Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu as the president, and to also vote for him, all the senatorial, houses of representatives and state houses of assembly candidates and chairmen and councillor.
He said all the APC candidates are credible men of reputable character, adding that Ede Dafinone, the Delta Central Senatorial candidate who will take over from him, is a competent, knowledgeable, connected and prudent, appealing that all should vote massively for the APC.
On Governor Ifeanyi Okowa Vice Presidential candidacy, Senator Omo-Agege avowed saying; “We will terminate the ambition of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa becoming vice president of this nation, stating that there is no room for betrayal and touts managing the affairs of Delta State”.
While describing the deviation of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa from the South South Governors forum resolution which affirmed, power must shift to the south as gross betrayal, Omo-Agege maintained that, his actions were not different from that of Judas Iscariot, and called on him to drop his ambition in order to atone for his crime of betraying the entire South South region.
He urged Deltans and all party faithful to go home and work hard to deliver the those contesting under the APC. He spoke extensively and passionately on he backwardness of Delta State but promise to perform better if elected.
Also speaking, leader of the APC on Delta State, Olorogun otega Emerho said; i am presenting to you a candidate that is capable, courageous and have the where withal. He described Omo-Agege as a man with great vision and driven has done a lot and given the opportunity, he will transform Delta that is already in the dungeon of debt and mismanagement.
Inaugurating the body, Omo-Agege said: “We must take back our dear State from Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who with his cohorts, have held our state hostage. After over seven years of Okowa, one thing we all agree on is that there is a huge gap between the funds Delta State received, generated and borrowed; even recklessly, and what Okowa’s government has done. This has left our state seriously undermined in so many ways that are too numerous to count. Okowa misused and wasted our hard-earned resources. And when the state ran out of funds, he embarked on a reckless borrowing spree, thereby mortgaging our future and those of our unborn children.
“And now he wants to handover to his stooge, Speaker Sheriff Francis Oborevwori whose House which he heads, approved every kobo that was wasted and stolen to protect himself from accountability. For the years of Sheriff’s speakership, the Delta State House of Assembly has been a rubber stamp, giving everything Okowa asks for without effective oversight, thereby undermining the entire idea of the Separation of Powers enshrined in our Constitution as well as weakening our democracy.
“We all remember what happened to Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya when he dared to ask questions, when he tried to do his job and provide the checks and balances our Constitution demands. He was fired for trying to scrutinize executive actions as the legislature must do.
And because power corrupts and absolutely power corrupts absolutely, we ended up with an uncontrolled state government that has since turned its back on the people of Delta State.
“It is common knowledge to all that the present ruling People’s Democratic Party – PDP in Delta has failed woefully in bestowing credible and visionary leadership to rive the yearnings of our people. In all development indices, Delta State under PDP cannot compete with neighbouring States in education, agriculture and quality infrastructure. This is a big shame for a State that had been a pace setter, first with our sister Edo, as Bendel, and even as Delta State since 1991. Delta State is the highest receiver of Federal allocation and 13 per cent derivation, yet, the State is also the second most indebted State in the country. The seemingly chaotic socio-political and economic environment in Delta State requires a leader with the necessary skills and knowledge, to work with a qualified team to address the systemic bottlenecks that have hindered the development of the State.

“Are we ready for another four years of that nonsense, another four years of plundering and stealing, another four years of drift? All of us here today do not want to see more of the past very terrible years of Okowa-Oborevwori tyranny. We want our state back. The gross misuse and total waste of scarce resources has cost Delta state so much and this must stop”.
He stressed that APC’s manifesto seeks to rebuild and reinvigorate the state by tackling the scary rate of unemployment by prioritizing public investment in agriculture and tech-driven entrepreneurship.
