Do you still remember Osinachi Nwachukwu, the popular gospel singer who was allegedly murdered by her husband, I guest you do, a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Wuse 2 has scheduled October 17 to issue a no case” submission made by Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of the late gospel singer.
The tragic incident occurred on April 8, 2022, and was attributed to alleged maltreatment and domestic violence inflicted by Osinachi’s husband. Following public outrage, the Nigeria Police Force apprehended Nwachukwu and forwarded his case to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for prosecution.
The trial commenced on June 20, 2022, with the prosecution presenting 17 witnesses to provide their testimonies. The prosecution officially concluded its case on March 10, 2023. Nwachukwu, when arraigned before Justice Njideka K. Nwosu-Iheme, pleaded not guilty to the 23-count charges related to domestic violence and homicide, subsequently being remanded at the Kuje Correctional facility.
A police report indicated the absence of visible signs of violence on the deceased, outlining the causes of her death. The report specified “generalized organ pallor, bilateral leg swelling, fluid in the sac containing the heart, tumor deposits in and on the heart, lungs, kidneys, massively enlarged heart, and fluid around the lungs, restricting breathing.”
Nwachukwu’s legal representative, A. Aliyu, filed a “no case” submission, contending that the evidence provided by medical practitioners, as presented by the prosecution, absolved Nwachukwu of culpable homicide.
In the most recent court session on Tuesday, Justice Nwosu-Iheme designated October 17 for the ruling on the “no case” submission, underscoring the critical role this judgment will play in the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding Osinachi Nwachukwu’s unfortunate demise
