President General of Otovwodo Community in Ughelli, Delta State, Pastor Ovigue Solomon Ugbarugba and the entire community has commended the Executive Governor of Delta state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori over the construction of the Uduere/Okogbe/Stadium to Agbarha junction ring road.
This commendation was given during the annual general meeting of the community held at the community town hall in Otovwodo, on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
Delivering his speech, Ovigue Solomon Ugbarugba, a Pastor and Engineer, noted that Otovwodo community are indeed grateful being among the first beneficiaries of the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori administration. He recalled that soon as the governor was sworn in, he immediately hits the ground running without taking time to settle down.
“We are indeed grateful to him because, infrastructural development is very key to the economic growth of any place, and since the construction of these roads, the economic activities of the community has improved.
” I must attest to the fact that the construction of the Otovwodo ring road, is a milestone achievements and we are most grateful to the governor”.
Continuing, the President General, stated that Otovwodo is the headquarters of Ughelli Kingdom and gateway to the towns around the kingdom. He maintained that with the construction of the ring roads, the usual gridlock at the Otovwodo junction will reduced drastically as traffic will now move freely without the usual delay of manpower hours at one spot. He thanked the Governor and promised the community support to his administration.
Ugbarugba also appealed to the governor to help the community by absorbing the four teachers employed by the community to help the students in Geography, CRS and English Language at the Otovwodo Grammar School.
“These teachers we recruited are well qualified Bachelor’s Degree holders in Education in their different fields.
“The reason we did that was as a result of the information we got from the school that for the past years, the school which had about 24 arms, has no Geography, CRS and English language teachers. In other to bridge that gap, the Education committee recruited four most qualified amongst those that applied, and they have since been teaching in the past one year.
“We are appealing for the state governor and the relevant authority to help us absorbed the teachers to continue and take over their salaries as the burden is pressing on the community seriously.
” We are equally calling on the state government to help fenced the school as criminals takes lack of perimeter fence to constantly vandalized the school and carts away valuables. As a result of this, the community have also engaged the services of the vigilantes who always patrol the school premises at intervals patrol and their services have paid off as two persons have been arrested and currently serving their jail terms at the Correctional Centre.”
Ugbarugba, noted that if the school is fenced, intruders will find it difficult to come in easily.
On the Otovwodo market, Ugbarugba appealed to the local government chairman, Barr. Jaro Egbo, to help them facilitates the construction of road to the market to enable traders vacate trading along major roads. He said since the local government chairman was sworn-in, he has visited the market twice, and being the closest to the grassroot, hence the appeal is going to him. During the AGM, deserving individuals were presented with awards of selfless and excellence services for the supportive roles they played.
The PG and his Executive were later appreciated by the community for their selfless and worthy services, but urged them to continue leading with transparency, accountability and development.
