Parent and guardians have been cautioned to ensure their children and wards are given proper upbringing coupled with the fear of God and respect for humanity.
This advise was handed down by the President General and Leaders of Ogbonvwa community in Ughelli North local government area, Delta State, over what they described as action that is capable of destroying homes and marriages.
They made this call at the community town hall while settling paternity rift over an alleged statement made by one Favour Igho Odeme with the social media name, Amromata Favour.
It was gathered that Favour Igho Odeme (18), a member of a Pentecostal Church in Ughelli (name withheld), has alleged that Mr. Augustine Godwin, is not the biological father of a 5-year old baby girl he claimed to have fathered.
Favour Odeme alleged in her facebook page that the girl belong to their former pastor that has left the church.
However, Favour when brought under interrogation said, the post was made out of annoyances and grudges she had against his Christian brother because of the misunderstanding that ensued between them.
She said, “I regret my actions over the post and comment made towards my Christian brother, the body of Christ and the trauma I may have caused him and the family.
Addressing journalists at the Ogbovwan community, father of Miss Favour Igho Odeme, Mr. Michael Odeme, said, “There was an issue between both church members and I blamed my daughter for such allegations.
Speaking on behalf of his daughter said, Mr Michael Odeme said, I condemned the attitude of my daughter over the incident and having admitted before the entire community at the town hall that she posted it out of her grievances against the person in question, I am appealing to Mr. Augustine to let go and forgive my daughter over the unfortunate and unguarded post.
“I am glad the community leadership came into the matter to resolve it amicably and the punishment meted to her, would serve as deterrent to others.
“At the community town Hall, she was highly dealt with at the community for such falsehood and she also apologized for her attitude, Mr. Odeme stated
On his part, Mr. Augustine Godwin, who expressed anger held that such statement posted in the social media could become a stigma in the future if not properly ironed and handled.
“The parent of the girl are just like my parent and we have been living together peacefully before now and I am satisfied with the way the issue was handled by the community leadership.
“It was the appeal from the community leaders and her father that made me relent, else, she should have been defending herself legally by now. And since they have agreed to my terms of settlement I am satisfied.
