As the Evwreni Clan Improvement Union (ECIU) elections draws closer, indigenes and residents of the crisis torn community in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, have expressed fears and worries over possible crisis in the community.
Their fears is coming on the heels of bitterness, anger and hatred against some past leaders, heads of community affairs and followers who pretend to be peace makers but alleged to have some hidden selfish agenda.
According to Mr. Evor O.M Justice, one time Assistant Secretary General of the ECIU, while addressing journalists said that the misunderstanding in the kingdom is as a result of the way and manners with which the ECIU is being hijacked without due processes and fragrant negligence of the ECIU constitution.
Evor stated that the ECIU constitution does not recognize Care-taker Committee that is being constituted, adding that such measure is a calculated attempt to usurped the offices of duly constituted authority which is totally condemned by article 7(4) of the ECIU constitution.
He said that from the ECIU constitution, nobody has such prerogative power to call the meeting of the union or appoint any committee of any kind without the the President General of the kingdom as enshrined in Article 12(1) of the union constitution.
“But if the need arises as recommended by the Ministry of Women Affairs, then it should be in accordance with 2010 arrangement which is related to Article 6(2) (a) of the ECIU constitution and not in the king’s palace nor some masterminded individuals”, Evor Justice disclosed.
Evor Justice said, “Altering any parts of the constitution is the responsibility of Article 7 (3), (a, e and f) of the ECIU constitution which is in agreement with Article 8(2) (a) of the constitution, saying that any other means of reviewing the constitution is deviation from the aims and objectives of the ECIU as it is codified in Article 4(11), and that’s a crisis at its peak”.
He however maintained that any member of the Care-taker Committee making preparations for how new executives could be selected can not contest for the same elections, as he said it is unacceptable, justice miscarriage and a rapist form of governance.
Evor Justice used the medium to call on the Delta State government, sons and daughters of Evwreni in diaspora to wade into the threatening crisis because a serious ongoing cold war is reaping in.
He called on the constituted executive council of Evwreni union comprising of the NEC and other leaders of thoughts to revisit the scheduled ECIU September general elections to avert unforeseen looming crisis.
