The Divisional Police Officer DPO, attached to the “B” Division Warri, of the Delta State Police Command, CSP Christopher Odoh, has rejected a five million naira bribe (#5 million) offered to him by some unidentified cronies of a prison official identified as Assistant Inspector of Prison, Apiakise Samson, after he raped and defiled a 15 year old student of Ugbuwangue College in Warri.
According to DAILY POST, the rape and defilement incident occurred on January 21, 2025, at Obahor Street in Warri, Delta State, and the suspect was arrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force “B” Division in Warri, were he is presently cooling off his heels at the Police cell.
It was gathered that the suspect on 21st of January 2025, at about 1100pm accosted the young girl, forcefully took her into the Correctional Centre, beat her up, pulled off her clothes, laid her on the ground and had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.
He allowed the girl to go back home the following morning at about 5am. When she got home, she reported the matter to her mother who had looked for her all through the night.
Infuriated by the development, the mother of the girl incidents the matter at the “B” Division of the Nigeria Police in Warri.
The suspect was promptly arrested and a medical examination was conducted by Dr. A. Akpofure of the Central Hospital Warri, and the report indicated that there was penetration and blood stains.
Meanwhile, some unscrupulous unidentified persons who wanted the matter to be swept under the carpet had offered a whooping sum of Five Million Naira to the DPO, but he rejected the offer insisting that justice must be served in the matter in order to serve as a deterrent to others hiding under uniforms to perpetrate crimes.
When contacted for comments, Secretary to the Comptroller of Nigeria Correction Centre in Delta State, Festus Onyeaju on Monday, January 27 in a telephone chat with Our Correspondent said, “I can’t speak on that. Am not in Warri.”
It was also gathered that the suspect as of Tuesday, January 28 is currently undergoing trial by officials of the Nigerian Correctional Services, NCS, who came into Warri from Asaba.
The suspect who faces dismissal will be arraigned in court immediately as soon as the trial is concluded
However, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe when reached for comments on the matter said, “I have not received any report from the DPO”, but promised to get back to as soon as he gets any information from the DPO.
