The Delta State Police Command said its operatives has foiled a suspected kidnapping along Otefe/ Ovade Legit road of Ethiope West Local Government Area and recovered one AK-47 riffle, one magazine, one English pump action gun, and one locally made cut-to-size gun.
According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, SP. Bright Edafe, while students of the Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara were having their graduation on August 13, 2024, the DPO Oghara Division received credible information that some suspected kidnappers had already perfected plans to kidnap guests who that will attend the ceremony.
The DPO Oghara Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu Acting on the information gathered, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu, DPO Oghara Division, swiftly mobilized and led operatives of Oghara Division to the kidnappers hideout at a bush along Otefe/ Ovade Legit road. According to Edafe; the suspected kidnappers on sighting the Police engaged them in a gun duel but realising the superior fire power of the police, took to their heels and escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries from the gun duel.
The police later recovered one AK-47 riffle, one magazine, one English pump action gun and one locally made cut-to-size gun. Manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.
In same vein, the police have also arrested two suspected members of Arrow Bagger Confraternity along the Delta State Polytechnic road Oghara, recovering a locally made cut to size gun with six live cartridges.
According to the statement, on August 24, 2024, ablt about 19:45 hrs, Police anti-crime patrol team of Oghara Division while on stop and search along Otefe Ijomi Community road intercepted a motorcycle conveying one Ovoke Benedict, (22) ‘m’, a student of Computer Science Department of the Delta State Polytechnic Otefe Oghara and a native of Ughelli North LGA, Delta State and one Fredrick Urhoborume (23) ‘m’, of Ughelli North LGA, and a student of Business Administration Department of the Delta State Polytechnic Otefe Oghara.
The Policemen who were on stop and search, subjected them to a search during which one locally made cut-to-size gun with six (6) live cartridges was recovered from them.
Preliminary investigation revealed that they are suspected members of Arrow Barger Confraternity investigation is ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, while thanking the good people of Delta State, urges them to do more by providing useful, credible and timely information to the Police as this will aid immensely in the fight against crime and criminality.
