The dismissed Police Inspector, Ubi Ebri who murdered one Onyeka Ibe on April 5, 2023 while on stop and search duty along Ugbolu-Illah road was on Wednesday, April 19, arraigned before an Asaba Magistrate’s Court on a remand proceedings for murder.
Inspector Ubi Ebri until the fateful April 5, 2023, when he killed late Onyeka Ibe, was attached to the Area Command Asaba. The State Police Command had earlier announced his dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force after an orderly room trial at the state headquarters.
The Court ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Center and that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and prosecution of the suspect.
The Command, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, has tasked officers and men to uphold the tenets of professional policing in the discharge of their duties with respect to fundamental human rights of all citizens, in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic’s of Nigeria (as amended)
It hopes that the case of dismissed and arraigned Inspector Ebri will serve as a deterrent to other officers.
