Palpable fear has griped indigenes and residents of Oguname-Olomu community, in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, as suspected kidnappers have abducted the owner of a popular local food restaurant known as ‘Ejiro Restaurant and Catering Service’ to an unknown destination.
According to a local source, the gunmen storm the community in their numbers shooting sporadically in the early hours of Thursday, January 12, when the lady was busy preparing food for the day business.
“We thought it was policemen or vigilantes, but when we came out, we discovered it was something else as we heard people around screaming and running for safety.
“The woman specializes in local food and this attracts a lot of customers both workers, transporters and even indigenes to her restaurant. She usually wakes up early with her workers to cook different local delicacies in order to satisfy her customers who most time patronized her in the morning.”
The suspected kidnappers was said to have trailed her to the restaurant that early morning, and used s name familiar to them I’m order to deceive one of the staff to open the burglary proof to allow them access. As soon as the doors were opened, they discovered they were holding guns and all of them on mask.
“They hit our madam with the boot of their guns, while they asked all of us to lie down as others where shooting. They beat our madam as she refused to follow them but they over powered her and force her out of the restaurant into their car and sped off, one of the staff who chose to be anonymous disclosed”.
SouthernVoicenews also gathered that her husband who was around when the suspects came in, was shot when he attempted to escape, but could not confirm his state of health before going to press.
When reporters visited the community on Sunday, the restaurant; ‘ Ejiro Restaurant and Catering Services’ was still under lock with most of her customers lamenting the incident as some were heard saying that many of them will go hungry as most of them takes their breakfast from her restaurant.
Local sources however alleged that the kidnappers have established contact demanding a ransom of Ten million naira, but it was not confirmed if it was true or not as the phone numbers of the victims husband was switched off.
