For the quick intervention of men of the Delta State Fire Service, Ughelli Station and that of the NPDC, lives and properties worth billions of naira would have been consumed Tuesday, June 20, 2023, when a fire outbreak occurred at Wetland Hotels, one of the most popular hotels in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.
Pandemonium broke out in the morning of the said date when it was noticed that a ravaging fire has started from the generating set house. Guests and staff of the hotel located along the Ughelli axis of the East West Road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta state were seen scampering for safety while the flames of the fire continues.
When SouthernVoicenews visited the hotel in the evening of Tuesday, it was gathered that no life was lost but was told that the fire started from the power generating sets house until it escalated to the security guards house, stating that the generating sets house and the security guards house were partially destroyed before the arrival of the Delta State Fire Service Ughelli Station and that of the NPDC.
A Director at the Hotel, Richard Kpedi Esq, who spoke via a telephone conversation said; “The fire was as a result of electrical fault that emanated from the generators house.”
