Urges Commissioners To Work With Them
The Delta State Information Commissioner Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza yesterday appealed to Commissioners not to sideline public relations officers in their Ministries as they care Professional Journalists.
He said that the public relations officers were professional journalists and should be allowed to do their jobs.
He expressed these sentiments in Asaba while addressing the monthly Congress of NUJ.
He decried a situation where some Commissioner prefer to use their media aides thereby making their public relations officers redundant.
Osuoza observed that information management was beyond Facebook posts, adding that journalism was a serious business governed by rules and ethics.
On the issue of some commissioners not answering reporters calls and inquiries, he promised to talk to his colleagues.
He revealed that he might be forced to table the issue before the state executive council.
On the dwindling fortunes of the state owned media (The Pointer, DBS, Asaba and DRTV, Warri) he said that a committee has been set up to address the problem.
He promised that in the nearest future, the state owned media houses should compete favourably with national media houses.
The Information Commissioner pledged to take the training and welfare of journalists very serious so that they could propagate the succeses of the Oborevwori administration.
