Following the demise of the revered King of the Olomu Kingdom, HRM, Dr. Richard Layeguen Ogbon, Ogoni-Oghoro I, JP, OON, in February, a former Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP retired, Chief Macaulay Ovbagbedia, has been traditionally picked as the Ohworode-Elect to the exalted throne of the ancient Olomu Kingdom in Delta State.
The Ohworode Elect was until now the Otota (Traditional Prime Minister) of the Kingdom and best described as the custodian of the Olomu tradition.
According to a statement signed by Olorogun Albert Akpomudje SAN, The Akpile of Olomu Kingdom for the coronation committee, disclosed that the retired police officer will be crowned as the new Ohworode today, Ssturday, May 20, at the Adjefia Hall, Agbon-Olomu, the traditional headquarter of the kingdom.
The statement specially invites all sons, daughters and friends of the kingdom to the coronation ceremony of HRM Macaulay Ovbagbedia, as the new Ohworode of Olomu.
Olomu kingdom, one of the most revered traditional thrones in the Niger Delta, is located in Ughelli South council area of the state.
Ovbagbedia’s emergence followed the passage of the 106-year old traditional ruler of the kingdom, HRM Richard Layeguen Ogbon, Ogoni-Oghoro.
The Ohworode-elect, a nonagenarian, retired from the police force in the early 90s.
He is from Uhurhie, one of the three ruling houses of the kingdom, and a maternal relations to the famous Micheal Ibru family of Ovwor-Olomu.
