The Nigerian Police Force, NPF, on Monday night honoured the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC with an award for being a worthy partner in the security architecture of the country.
The award was received on behalf of the NDDC by the Managing Director of the Commission, Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, at an event held at the prestigious Congress Hall of Trancorp Hilton Hotels, Abuja.
The NDDC was the only corporate body that received such award at the ceremony attended by Nigerian’s Vice President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, other top government officials, Security Chiefs and a host of other prominent personalities within and outside the country.
Inspector General of Police, IGP, Olukayode Egbetokun, said the Inaugural Nigerian Police Awards and Commendation Ceremony, was to honour outstanding officers of the Nigerian Police Force, but singled out NDDC for Honour in appreciation of its support over the years to the Police Force.
He commended the NDDC for all its assistance towards law enforcement agencies across board, stressing that the partnership had helped address and reduce crime rates in the Niger Delta region.
Inspector General of Police acknowledged the proactive approach of the NDDC in handling security issues and commended Dr Ogbuku for his effective leadership.
“The Nigerian Police Awards and Commendations Awards Ceremony is an initiative aimed at recognizing and rewarding outstanding officers within the Nigerian Police Force who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, bravery, and professionalism in the line of duty.
“We appreciate the NDDC for contributing to the overall safety and security in Nigeria”, the IGP said.
Speaking at the event, the elated NDDC Boss, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, reiterated the commitment of the interventionist agency towards enhancing peace and security in Nigeria as well as fostering greater partnerships with security agencies.
The MD NDDC said Security and development go together and he pledged the Commission’s support to implementing strategies that would combat criminal activities, particularly in the Niger Delta region, including theft, vandalism, and illegal oil bunkering, amongst others.
He thanked the Nigeria Police Force for the award.
