With just two days to the presidential and National Assembly elections slated for Saturday, February 25, 2023, there is serious worries in Delta State following the absence of nonsensitive materials for the House of Representatives election.
The distribution of the nonsensitive materials scheduled for February 22nd 2023, could not commence despite the availability of nonsensitive materials for the presidential and Senate elections.
The Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Rev. Dr. Monday Udoh Tom, top Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, party stakeholders alongside journalists had gone to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), along Maryam Babangida Way Asaba, to commence the distribution ahead of Saturday elections.
One Ugochi, on INEC [DELTA] Press Corps, a WhatsApp group, had on February 21st announced that the Commission here in Delta would be sharing the sensitive materials for the 2023 general elections on Wednesday 22nd Feb 2023 at the Central bank, Asaba.
However, attempts by the REC to share the nonsensitive materials was not successful after waiting for several hours.
The situation was blamed on the weather condition which has caused the delay of the flight conveying the materials from Abuja.
Dr. Udoh-Tom, disclosed that the nonsensitive for the Presidential and Senate elections were already on ground but they are awaiting those of the House of Representatives.
Following the ugly situation, the material were not distributed.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the State Chairman, Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Delta State chapter, Mr. Emeka Bidokwu, insisted that unless nonsensitive materials for the House of Representatives arrives, the body would not allow INEC to distribute only the two non sensitive materials comprising that of the presidential and Senate elections
