Newly inaugurated Federal Capital Territory FCT, Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, said every house or structure built illegally must be brought down and warned all landlords in Abuja to get ready for his bulldozers.
Wike, a former Minister of State for Education and former Rivers State Governor, gave this warning in his office in Abuja after taking oath of Office as a minister.
While he said that his mission was to restore the masterplan of Abuja was not out of vendetta but to do the right thing.
He pledged that in the coming demolition exercise, both the mighty and powerful shall bear the full weight of the exercise.
Wike thundered :’All those people who are distorting the masterplan of Abuja, too bad. If you know you have built where you are not supposed to build, it will go down.
Be you a Minister of anywhere, be you an ambassador, if you know you have developed where you were not supposed to develop, your house must go down. Those who have taken over the green areas to build, sorry, our parks must come back, the green areas must come back. If you hate green, you must hate yourself.’
Answering reporters question, whether it would be a vendetta against his enemies, Wike said his aim was to do the right thing and not to witch-hunt anybody
He, however, added that in the process, he was not afraid to step on toes
Listen to him:’ Say the truth, you don’t like those who step on toes. I will step on toes.
The big and mighty, I will step on them. If you are doing what is wrong, I will do what I am supposed to do.’
It was also gathered that the appointment of Wike as minister sent shivers to the PDP camp of which Wike was a prominent member but fell out with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate in the last election.
The grouse of Wike and some PDP governors were not only the choice of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as PDP vice presidential candidate but that the PDP refused to zone the presidency to the South.
