Students of Okparabe Mixed Secondary School, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State have lamented the acute shortage of teachers in their school, appealing to the State government to post more teachers to improve their learning condition.
Senior prefect of the school, Master Samuel Oghenegare, while speaking to newsmen on Friday, November 25, decried the poor staffing situation of the secondary school, disclosing that the staff strength of the school is less than five teachers.
In his words; “We lack teachers and learning has become a difficult task before us.
“How do we prepare for our certificate examinations, he asked.”
He lamented a situation were only five teachers attend to the needs of all students both in those in the junior and senior secondary.
“We heard that teachers are retiring every year, but there is no replacement.
He noted, that if your parents are not buoyant enough to enrol you in private schools in towns and city, there is no hope for you especially like them in the rural areas.
Other students who also speak to journalists, blamed the state government and commissioner for education for not visiting schools to know the teaching condition and plight of the students.
The students who expressed their sadness, noted that a situation were the principal of a school is reduced to a classroom teacher is so precarious and annoying.
As at the time newsmen visited the school, only two teachers out of the five, was sighted from a distance as both the principal and other teachers were said not to be on seat.
