The Delta State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, has insisted that before contractors are paid by the Board, projects executed must be verified.
Following the decision, the board was at some schools in Oshimilli South and North, Ika South, Ika NorthEast and Ndokwa West LGA to inspect and verify the various projects executed in the areas by the board, including school desks, class room blocks building, among others.
Chairman SUBEB, Barr Samuel Mariere, represented by the 2nd member of the board and Chairman Project Monitoring Committee, Comrade Onome Akpoghere,
said the purpose of the verification exercise is to ensure that projects executed by contractions meet the state government specification in terms quality and standard.
Mariere said the board has deployed it’s project monitoring team to the three senatorial districts to verify over four thousand desks supplied by contractions including class room blocks buildings and water projects completed by contractions.
He said the era where projects are not verified before payments are made to contractors are over, adding that the Oborevwori administration will not tolerate shoddy jobs from contractors.
Mariere stated the board would only engaged contractors that will execute quality projects that will stand the test of time and add value for resources spent.
The SUBEB Chairman, commended the contractor that supplied the desk across government schools in the state for the quality materials used to execute the job.
He also appreciated the quality of project execution on six block class room building at the Ezeti primary school in Ndokwa west local government area, urging others to emulate the contractor.
Mariere appealed to the school heads to secure they protect and maintain government projects under their watch.
The Board Chairman, who was not impress with the fencing work at Agwai primary school and broken doors and windows at Egwa junior secondary school, Ewuru, the projects delivered in 2023, both in Ika south local government area, called on the contractors to go back to site and correct all errors on project or risk not being paid.
Some heads of schools who spoke commended the state government for the class room block buildings, as well as the provision of school desks which they said has brought relief to the schools as pupils no longer sit on the floor while taken lectures.
They appealed that teachers desks be provided for the schools.
They also asked for reactivation of water schemes in the school premises and renovation of broken down fence.
Responding to the request, SUBEB Chairman assured that government would look into the issues raised, pointing out that Rt. Sheriff Oborevwori is a lover of education and is determined to make public education the best in the state.
