A suspected kidnapper only identified as Akatakpo has been shot at Ewu-Urhobo community in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State and number of other suspects arrested by police operatives from the Ughelli Area Command and Otu-Jeremi Division.
The victim popularly known as ‘Akatakpo, who also owned a hotel in the community and was shot while trying to resist arrest with the support of some youths present during the arrest.Â
They were said to have engaged the police operatives in a physical fight trying to pave way for the suspect to escape, but the police also stood their ground and overpowered the hoodlums.
A senior security source attached to the Delta State Police Command, who confirmed the arrest said, “Some boys were arrested for alleged kidnapping, so in the process of interrogation, the name of Akatakpo was mentioned and this led to his arrest.
“It was in the process of his arrest that some youths and suspected members of his gang engaged the police in fierce fight and to avoid the escape of the suspected, the police opened fire on the leg of the suspect, Akatakpo.
The suspect is responding to treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
